Blog Question of the Day

Hey folks!  Sorry we haven’t posted anything in a while.  Mark is hard at work at an awesome blog post for later this week.  In the meantime, I’m going to post a question we got through our Facebook page and my answer, which I’m calling the Question of the Day! :)  As well at an awesome page from the forthcoming Super Knocked Up comic book.  Which is what the opening comment in the question below is referencing :)  And I hope all of you out there had a wonderful holiday and have a super Happy New Year!  Okay, here it is:

Oooh, that looks SO good!!  I do have 2 questions though:

1)  Will I, living in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Europe, be able to watch the webseries (see, like on HBO and such I get the pop-up that I am not in a region able to watch).

2)  Will the comic be brought out worldwide?  And if not (so actually 3) ^_^)  Will the comic be made available online?  Am looking forward to it!! X

Nikki Parry-Wulff

Hey Nikki! I will answer all your questions :)

1. You will absolutely be able to watch the web series in Amersterdam or anywhere else in the world. All you’ll have to do is go to our official site www.superknockedup.com which is where I’ll post the episodes. I’ll also embed there here on our Facebook page so you can watch them just be going to the Facebook page – www.facebook.com/superknockedup :)

2. The print comic will be mostly print on demand and at conventions but the comic will absolutely be offered in digital format online which anyone will be able to buy and download from anywhere :) So to sum up you’ll absolutely be able to watch the web series and read the comic.

And P.S. thanks so much for being so interested in it. You’re freakin’ awesome! As all our Super Knocked Up supporters are :) You guys rock!

ONE FROM THE HERO

Well hello there Super-Knocked Uppers (is that really what I’m supposed to call you?)! Michael Masters, aka your friendly neighborhood Captain Amazing, here! Ok, that’s not really my tagline. I stole that from another superhero. Arachnid Kid or something like that. Some little boy who swings around the city with some gooey stuff. Totally not my thing, by the way.

Anyway, Mark and Jeff asked me to drop by and contribute to Super Blogged Up, so I thought I’d take some time out of my busy day of saving old ladies and picking up young ones to give a quick shout out to everyone here and give you my take on the story of me and Darkstar.  I know you’ve all been waiting quite awhile for the the series to hit (and no – my superhero powers don’t include being able to make Jeff edit any faster!), so I won’t divulge TOO MUCH information, don’t worry!

When Jeff first approached me to ask me if he could turn my life story (ok, not my LIFE story, but PART of my life story) into a movie, I said “Absolutely, but make sure you get someone the size of Vin Diesel to play me.” I requested Vin Diesel because, even though he’s quite a bit smaller than I am, he’s got the same kind of body shape, although his face is nowhere near as handsome as mine.

Two weeks later Jeff came to me and said “I’ve found the perfect Michael Masters.” “Where?”, I replied. “Right next to me,” answered Jeff. Only there was no one next to Mr. Burns. After shrugging and laughing at his ruse, suddenly a small voice called out: “Here, Mr. Amazing.” I looked down to see the shortest, scrawniest little Italian my heroic eyes had ever laid witness to. “HIM?,” I cried. Jeff saw the look of dismay in my face. “He’s a weakling, but he can act, I assure you.” And although I had never worked with this Upstate Independents director (I hear people address him as “Mein Fuhrer” on set? Buncha savages in this town), I completely trusted him. Besides, I figured Jeff’s special effects guy could buff this actor (whose name is Mark Pezzula, by the way. Watch out for him, he’s gonna be huge someday) up digitally.

Then it was time to meet the woman portraying Jessica James, my arch-nemesis and (so they say) the love of my life. That’s when I was introduced to Natalie Bain. Miss Bain is, for lack of any other word, luminescent. A true beauty, inside and out. And, may I add, one of the darned funniest females I have ever met. Funniest females – what am I saying? She’s one of the funniest PEOPLE I’ve ever met. Period. And one of the prettiest. May I add she’s luminescent. Did I already write that? Whoops! That’s embarrassing! Hold on, Jessica’s looking over my shoulder reading this. Be right back…

…sorry about that folks. I should probably add that my relationship on set with Miss Bain was one of strict professionalism, and that everything I wrote in that previous paragraph was simply public relations and promotion to get you to want to watch the series. And I’m being told to tell you that Natalie Bain is slightly above average looking, but nowhere near as gorgeous as someone standing right behind me whose name begins with a J.

MOVING ON!

After meeting the two leads, I had the pleasure of talking with most of the supporting cast and everyone from the crew. All seem like folks at the top of their game. I know literally nothing about film production (but a lot about everything else – that’s just the way I am), but I can assure you my story (OUR story – Jessica) is in good hands.

Well, that’s about it, folks. I hope you enjoyed my first blog post (to paraphrase Paul Sorvino in Goodfellas “I broke my cherry!” Yes, superheroes watch movies too). Somewhere there’s a baby crying in a burning building and I’m afraid Arachnid Kid might screw up the rescue, so I’m off to show him how it’s done. I hope that idiot that dressed up like a bat doesn’t try to come and steal my thunder. He’s such an a**hole.

ALL GOOD THINGS

Greetings, Super Knocked-uppers. Hope this week finds you well. If you like rain and you live in the northeastern portion of the US, well then September 2011 was probably the best month you’ve ever experienced in your life. Also: you suck. Rain is awful.

MOVING ON!

It is my pleasure this week to let you all know that you’re THIS MUCH closer to seeing the first episode of SKU. I can officially announce that we have COMPLETED SHOOTING THE FIRST SEASON! Filming officially ended sometime around 10:30 PM Sunday, September 4th. Mein Fuhrer – er, sorry, Jeff Burns is neck deep in SKU footage, doing his best Walter Murch impression and slaving away at the edit machine for hours at a time.

It seems like only yesterday that Jeff cornered me in a dark alley, threatening to break both of my kneecaps with a tire iron then sell my family into slavery at a Philipino (Philipinian?) brothel if I didn’t accept the role of Michael Masters. I could handle the thought of greasy American businessmen on vacation doing unspeakable things to my kin (who can’t?), but when it came to the kneecap thing I buckled. They’re my knees. You need them to walk. I need them to fly.

It also seems like yesterday that I fought tooth and nail against the casting of Natalie “No Eye Contact” Bain as my arch nemesis, Darkstar. Not only is she a diva the likes of which Jennifer Lopez would kow-tow to, but she delivers lines like she went to the Robert Pattinson School of Boring Delivery.

Of course, I kid. Although it’s been quite a long and eventful year, the individuals involved in the making of Super Knocked Up have been fantastic to work with. I will NOT remember the name of everyone involved (not because they’re not memorable, but because my memory SUCKS), but here are a few I know of who I want to shout out a big THANKS! to: Natalie Bain, Megan Miller, Eric Oakes, Brian Szepatowski, Juan Lopez, Lauren Kraus, Chriss Vincelette, Justin Maine, Yvonne Perry, David Bunce, Nick Lyman, Daniela Malave, Ron Pucherelli, Jenna Dott, Justine Mackey, Jay Ruzicka, Catherine Mancuso, Mike Feurstein, Roman Jaquez, John Holser, Mike Camoin, Carly Allington, Gaby Allen, Jeff Stewart, Jon Cring, Bria Schultz, Martin Pohl, Michalina Almindo, Mike Scorzelli, Rick Rodgers, Russell Van Brocklen and all the amazing extras that came out and did a kick-ass job!

I want to save the biggest thanks, though, for all of YOU. Thank you so much for following us here at Super Blogged Up, “Liking” SKU on FB, and reading the Twitter feed. We know you’ve been waiting a long time to see the series, and we thank you for waiting patiently. We believe it will live up to your expectations, and that you’ll have a wonderful time watching something we think brings a new and unexpected angle to the world of the superhero.

So thanks again, Super Knocked-uppers. Until next time – stay Super Knocked Up!

MAKING OUT IS HARD TO DO

Hey all you Super Blogged-uppers, hope the past few weeks have been good to you all. We’re getting closer and closer to the world premiere of Super Knocked Up here on the interwebs, and as anticipation builds, we hope you’re as excited to watch the show as we are to have you watch it.

To start this blog off I want to ask the male readers in the audience here a question: how many of you like makin’ out with girls (or A girl, if you have a significant other). Okay, I see all of you have raised your hands. Except that guy right there. Who’s that? Oh, it’s director Jeff Burns. Interesting. Anyway, I have another question for you guys: how many of you like makin’ out with HOT girls? Again, all of you except for Mr. Burns. Who DOES that guy like to make out with? Wookies? Oh…ok. Wookies it is. Sorry man, didn’t mean to offend you. I guess Wookies are kind of cute. If you like hair.

Anyway, I asked that question because I, too, enjoy a bit of the ol’ make out sesh with the opposite sex. Except when it’s in front of a group of people. On a 90 degree film set. With a camera two feet from our meshed-together lips capturing every bead of sweat on our make-up caked faces. Yeah. It’s about as sexy as it sounds. I put that horrible image in your head because that’s exactly what you would have seen on the set of SKU a few weeks ago, should you have been unlucky enough to walk in on a take. (And if you’re walking in on a take – what the hell are you doing at my apartment without knocking? And we’re trying to shoot here, you moron!)

The scene in question is going to be some extra footage for you folks to enjoy, not part of the series itself. It involves an interview between me (as Captain Amazing) and the lovely Daniela Maleve (who plays reporter Darcy Danger). Darcy begins the interview as professional as possible, but then her insatiable attraction to Captain Amazing becomes too much for her to handle and, when the segment returns to the two characters after a cut-away to some man-on-the-street footage, the Captain and Miss Danger are intertwined in some light sexy-time

Now, you think it’d be easy to act such a scene out. After all, I’m a professional (ok, maybe not. Maybe like a sub-sub-(sub-sub) professional) and so is Daniela (seriously, she is). Fact is, though, no matter how professional the people involved are, no matter how many reassurances you receive from the director, no matter how many mints you get from the script girl, no matter how many people on set tell you that they want to keep the footage for their “personal files” (creeps), doing anything sexual with an actor is nerve-wracking as hell.

Maybe it was because it was the first time in my 30 years that I was going to lock-lips with a female, or maybe it was because I couldn’t stop belching up the turkey bacon I had eaten for dinner, but the stomach butterflies were in full effect that morning. We ran through the scene a few times without the kiss, but, eventually the time came. We finished our lines right before it, then BAM! Daniela and I slammed our faces together like two male rams head-butting each other over a potential mate. We had decided to play the make-out for laughs, so we groped exaggeratingly and mushed noses while making odd grunting sounds. “CUT!”, yelled Jeff. We were done. It was over. Or so we thought.

As how it is with every other type of scene, we had to do multiple takes of the kiss. With each take it became less awkward (although I really didn’t know where to put my hands – Daniela herself mentioned her chesticles, but I’m a gentleman. I only grope a woman’s breasts in a crowded area, when she can’t tell who’s doing it), and by the time we finished I felt like I could make out with Daniela all day. KIDDING! DON’T KILL ME DANIELA’S HUSBAND, PLEASE DON’T!

Anyway, the moral of the story is…well I don’t rightly know actually. Think before you accept a role where you’ll have to kiss someone? Yeah, maybe that’s it…

’til next time: stay Super Knocked Up, Super Blogged Uppers!

THEY LIKE ME. THEY REALLY LIKE ME.

It’s a little disconcerting walking into a room and seeing a picture of your face in the middle of a dart board. With darts stuck into it. Even if, in the pic, your face is covered by a mask, and even if the pic isn’t really of you, but of a character you play on TV (well, play on internet TV, anyway). It’s even more unsettling when that same room is filled with the people who have been throwing those short, needle-tipped arrows at your face in that picture all afternoon. And when they all turn around and glare at you like you just yelled out “Heil Hitler!” and raised your right arm in the air? Yeah, that’s poop-pants inducing.

Images and more after the jump.

A Different Kind of Superhero Story

Hello out there to all you Super Blogged-Uppers! SKU actor Mark Pezzula here, with another blog for y’allz eyez ‘n earz. Alright, maybe not for your earz, but definitely your eyez.

Here at Super Blogged Up, we’d like to think that we have a pretty good thing going with our upcoming web series Super Knocked Up, about a female super-villain who finds herself with child after a night of passion with a superhero. We’re getting even closer to the release of Episode One (you’ve all been waiting so patiently, and we thank you for that!), and we hope you’ll think we have a pretty good thing going as well. We like to think we offer something a bit different than what people have seen before. In case you haven’t been convinced of that yet, I’m going to list a few things that I think separates Super Knocked Up from other web series and super-hero stories (and writer/director Jeff Burns will pop in occasionally during this blog for his Director’s Notes and to let people know when Mark is being stupid).

THE BREAKFAST OF ILL ACTORS

I used to love pancakes. A lot. I used to think that stacks of those thick, circular, deliciously fluffy things were God’s way of reminding us there is a heaven. I used to eat mine with just butter and syrup, but wouldn’t mind if someone tossed a piece of fruit (preferably a strawberry) or sausage on one every now and then.

I refer to my love of the cake of the pan in the past tense because Jeff Burns, who you all know as the writer and director of Super Knocked Up but who I now refer to as “The Joy of Breakfast Killer”, recently destroyed any craving I had for those scrumptious slices of cooked batter, all because Mr. Burns (or “Mein Fuhrer”, as he’s known on set) wanted a particular moment in a particular episode of SKU to be as funny onscreen as he had imagined it to be. Well, I hope you’re happy and the audience laughs hysterically, Herr Burns, because you’ve ruined my life in your pursuit of the perfect webseries! *endless wailing and waterfall of tears*

Greetings, Super Blogged-Uppers! Mark here, droppin’ another blog for your spot. Hope your Memorial Day weekend was spectacular, and you toasted to the memory of all those super-heroic folks we’ve lost fighting for our country.

This week I’d like to write a little bit about three upcoming summer films, all featuring comic-book superheroes that are near and dear to the heart of many a geek around the world.

THANK YOU BOSTON COMIC CON!

If you follow Super Knocked Up’s Facebook or Twitter pages (and if you don’t, please remedy that), then you know that writer/director Jeff Burns and I (actor extraordinaire Mark Pezzula) attended the annual comic/pop culture convention held in Boston, Massachusetts on April 30 and May 1. This has been, so far, the largest con that Super Knocked Up has attended with, what I think, has been the greatest response.
