So by now I assume you’ve all seen the hit new web series Super Knocked Up, right? Right. And if you haven’t, what are you waiting for? You’re missing one heck of a kick-ass fun time! You’re also missing me with my shirt off! Wait where are you going? Don’t run away! It’s only for one episode, I swear!
In all seriousness, I cant believe I’m writing this blog. The blog that signals the final arrival of this long-in-gestation project. It seems like only yesterday Jeff Burns asked me to play a superhero. Seems like a day later I was one pancake short of vomiting up baked batter and cheap syrup. That wasn’t yesterday or the day after, though. It’s going on a year and eight months since I first signed on to SKU, and about a year since I almost booted for the sake of a scene.
Watching the finished episodes is surreal. It’s difficult to be objective about the series, seeing as the memories surrounding each shoot are filled with pretty much everything but what’s actually on screen. We shot for dozens upon dozens of hours, a fraction of which ends up in front of your eyes. My girlfriend is lucky I didn’t recount hours of on set stories after we watched each episode. The shoot was that fun.
I don’t normally like watching myself on screen. No matter how many people tell me they like my acting, I think I suck. But viewing the SKU episodes has gotten easier with each week. I’m not sure if thats because I’ve given the middle finger to insecurity, because my friends have fed me enough BS to convince me that maybe I’m not as much like Tommy Wiseau as I think I am, or because I’m enjoying the series right along with you folks. Regardless, it’s been quite a hoot following the adventures of Darkstar and, by extension, Captain Amazing. I honestly can’t believe how popular the show has become. And that’s not because I doubted the quality of the production, but because we had humble expectations from the start regarding the whole thing. We hoped people would like Super Knocked Up, but we never expected folks to kind of fall in love with it.
So, from the bottom of my heart: thank you for watching. You all are the reason we do this, and you all are the reasons there will be a Season 2 of Super Knocked Up.
